Valiant point for Chester

Chester ended their six-game losing run by earning a priceless 0-0 draw against high-flying Exeter.

Turgid stalemate ensues

Chester ended their six-game losing run by earning a priceless 0-0 draw against high-flying Exeter. In a turgid game of few chances, Chester deserved at least a draw and probably can count themselves unfortunate that they didn't take all three points. It took Exeter until the 35th minute to test Chester keeper John Danby when Adam Stansfield turned sharply in the box but blasted his shot straight at Danby. The best chance of the first half came after 38 minutes when Steve Tully dithered in his own box and was robbed by Richie Partridge but keeper Paul Jones did brilliantly to deny him with a sprawling block - and Ryan Lowe could only send the rebound wide. Exeter boss Paul Tisdale brought on Ryan Harley, Steve Basham and Danny Seabourne in a bid to spark some life until his lacklustre team and it appeared to have the desired effect with Harley bringing a calm authority to the midfield and Exeter looking more dangerous. Neil Saunders came close for Exeter when he blasted a low shot on goal from 25 yards which Danby did well to save but in truth the visitors were finding it hard to get anywhere near Chester's goal. At the other end Lowe wasted a glorious chance to open the scoring after 67 minutes when he pounced on some loose defending in the Exeter box but could only squeeze his shot wide from eight yards out.
