Montpellier missed the chance to go eight points clear at the top of Ligue 1 after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Evian.
Souleymane Camara missed a penalty deep into injury-time to give Paris Saint Germain hope of catching them in the title race.
Both sides finished the game short on numbers after four players were sent off for fighting before the dramatic penalty miss.
Younes Belhanda broke the deadlock for Montpellier when he scored from the penalty spot three minutes before the break, but the lead proved short-lived as Thomas Kahlenberg levelled matters for Evian just two minutes later.
Evian stunned the home side on 69 minutes when Kevin Berigaud scored from close range, but top scorer Olivier Giroud drew Montpellier level six minutes from time with his 21st league goal of the campaign.
Monpellier were handed the chance to win the game four minutes into injury-time when Remy Cabella was fouled in the box.
However, the penalty was held up as Evian defender Cedric Mongongou and Belhanda were sent off for fighting.
Referee Olivier Thual then intervened after both sides and their respective coaching staff clashed on the touchline and he red carded Evian forward Saber Khalifa and Montpellier substitute Gregory Lacombe, who did not play any part in the game.
After the long delay Camara saw his spot-kick saved by Evian keeper Stephan Andersen.
Paris Saint Germain can cut their lead to three if they beat St Etienne at home on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bastia secured their return to Ligue 1 after a seven-year absence on Tuesday as a 3-0 win over Metz assured them not only of promotion but also they would finish as champions.
