Keeper answers emergency call

Veteran goalkeeper Henk Timmer has come out of retirement to sign for Heerenveen until the end of the season. Timmer initially hung up his gloves at Feyenoord at the end of last term, but has answered an SOS from Heerenveen. Martin Lejsal, Kenny Steppe and Brian Vandenbussche are all out injured, which left youngster Diederik Bangma as the only option between the posts. However, Timmer trained with Heerenveen on Thursday and has now agreed a short-term deal to provide emergency cover. "We're happy that in this emergency we've been able to find a good and experienced goalkeeper," said club director Yme Kuiper of the 38-year-old. "His training was good and Henk is happy with this adventure. That is more than enough reason to go with it."
