French side boost hopes for new season with triple signing

Brest have announced a triple swoop as they bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign. The Brittany club are keen to avoid another relegation battle after finishing just two points above the Ligue 1 drop zone in their first season back in the top flight. And they have already added Ben Eden Basat, Jhon Culma and Lionel Cappone to their ranks as manager Alex Dupont seeks an improvement. Striker Basat joins on a free transfer after his contract ended with Hapoel Haifa, for whom the 24-year-old scored 20 goals in all competitions last season.

Colombian midfielder Culma, 30, has been signed from Maccabi Haifa while goalkeeper Cappone, 32, joins after four years with Lorient. "With his record, many clubs were interested," assistant manager Corentin Martin said of Basat. "He is 24 years old and is highly motivated to come and play in Brest and help the team. "He is a complete striker who has pace and can find space. Technically he is good and he is comfortable and clever in front of goal."
