Bundesliga outfit sign Johnson; Zambrano won't be joining

Hoffenheim have signed former Germany Under 21 International Fabian Johnson from Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga outfit are understood to have agreed a three-year contract with the defender for a fee in the region of £600,000. Hoffenheim general manager Ernst Tanner is delighted with the signing and expects big things from the 23-year-old. He told the club's official website: "Fabian is a very talented and very versatile full-back. He has already learned to play in the top division. "We have bolstered our options on both full-back roles with his arrival. I am delighted to have singed him for Hoffenheim. I expect him to make the next step in his career at our club."

Zambrano

Meanwhile, Tanner has also confirmed that the club has dropped out of a deal to bring Peru International defender Carlos Zambrano to the Rhein-Neckar Arena. The 21-year-old player was poised to sign a three-year deal until June 2014 with the club until Hoffenheim pulled out because Zambrano has been nursing a long-term hip injury for his club St Pauli. And Tanner explained to BILD: "We're not going to risk signing Zambrano. Although he would fit straight into our team, he won't be unable to help us at this moment. "We have dropped out of the deal because he would not be fit enough for next season actually."
