Canavan keen to play more games

Scunthorpe defender Niall Canavan is hoping to keep his place in the side after making his first appearance in nearly 12 weeks.

The 20-year-old centre-half returned to the starting line-up in Saturday's goalless FA Cup tie at AFC Wimbledon in place of the injured Paul Reid (groin) and Shane Duffy, who was on international duty with the Republic of Ireland Under-21s. Canavan, disappointed his side could not turn their superiority into goals against the Dons, told the club's official website: "I enjoyed it. I've been out a fair few weeks, but I've had the two reserve games behind-closed-doors and they've been good for me. "I've got the game time that I needed and this was just more game time. "I'm pleased with the clean sheet and as a defender that's all you can really look to do."
