Wright wanted win for Cole

Oxford captain Jake Wright said former team-mate Mitchell Cole was never far from his mind in Saturday's clash with Aldershot.

The U's squad wore 'Team Mates Forever' t-shirts in their warm-up before a minute's applause in memory of the former Oxford midfielder in what was the first match at the Kassam since his death, aged 27, on December 1. "I think it was always going to be in the back of your mind, especially for the boys who knew him," he told the Oxford Mail. "Everyone wanted to win so badly for him, but it wasn't to be. "The minute's applause and the t-shirts were really nice touches, it's not going to go anywhere to helping his loved ones, but we just tried to do our little bit and let his family know we're thinking of them. "It's a horrible situation, but we've got to get together and keep going as a team."
