Javier Chevanton says he did not push for a move away from Lecce, but is looking forward to opening a new chapter at Queens Park Rangers.

The Uruguayan frontman has linked up with QPR on a short-term deal which will initially run until Christmas.

The 33-year-old brings vast experience with him to Loftus Road, having previously turned out in South America, France and Italy.

Chevanton has also been capped on 22 occasions by his country and boasts a proven track record when it comes to goal-getting.

He was surprised to be moved on by Lecce, having taken in three spells with the club, but is determined to make the most of his English opportunity.

Chevanton told tuttomercatoweb.com: "I said yes to QPR because Harry Redknapp strongly wanted me.

"I did not think twice. My priority was to come to London. Now I want to give my contribution to returning the club to the Premier League.

"I would have stayed at Lecce for life so you will have to ask the club why they sent me away."
