Marseille close gap on leaders as Lyon lose heavily

Marseille closed the gap at the top of the Ligue 1 table to four points after a convincing 3-0 win over Brest at the Stade Velodrome. Loic Remy put Marseille ahead after just 12 minutes, and they then doubled their lead on the hour through Jordan Ayew. Argentine stopper Gabriel Heinze claimed the third with just ten minutes remaining. Marseille have also all but secured second place after third place Lyon suffered a hefty 4-0 defeat at Auxerre. Dennis Oliech opened the scoring after 20 minutes for Jean Fernandez' side and things went from bad to worse for Lyon with Dejan Lovren being red-carded. Auxerre surged into a 3-0 lead with Alain Traore scoring either side of the interval before Cedric Hengbart sealed the win with ten minutes remaining. Lens' slim hopes of survival were boosted as they claimed a 1-0 win over Bordeaux with the winner coming through Adil Hermach with just three minutes left. Lens are now within six-points of safety with three-matches remaining after Monaco suffered a 3-0 defeat at sixth-placed Sochaux. The home side were in control at the break with David Sauget and Modibo Maiga on target. The win was sealed six minutes from time through Ryad Boudebouz. Nice's relegation worries were given a massive boost as they claimed a 3-2 win over Arles-Avignon. The home side went ahead through Daniel Ljuboja on the half-hour, but Arles levelled just moments later through Remy Cabella. Nice were back ahead on the hour with Francois Clerc scoring before Ljuboja added his second to give his side a two-goal cushion. Kaba Diawara pulled one back in injury-time but Nice did enough to hold on for the win. Caen are two points clear of the drop-zone as they grabbed a 1-1 draw at Rennes. The home side went ahead through Kader Mangane just before the break, but Caen salvaged a point thanks to M'Baye Niang scoring on the hour. Ninth placed Montpellier came from behind to seal a 3-1 win over Lorient. Bruno Ecuele Manga put Lorient ahead early on - but Montpellier levelled before the break with Olivier Giroud scoring. In the second-half Montpellier took control with Marco Estrada and Jamel Saihi scoring. Finally, Toulouse played out a goalless draw with Valenciennes.
