Kasper Schmeichel drew more comparisons with his famous father after earning Coventry their first point on the road in 2008 with a goalless draw at Southampton.
City boss Chris Coleman was relieved to break his away-day duck and secure another point towards surviving in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Schmeichel, a spectator for most of the first half at St Mary's, made some fine saves after the break from Stern John, Jason Euell and Bradley Wright-Phillips.
The young keeper, on loan from Manchester City, pulled off a superb star-jump save - reminiscent of legendary dad Peter - to keep out John's far-post header as the Sky Blues ended a run of eight straight away defeats.
"He reminds everyone of his dad, he's got that presence and makes the goal look small," said Coleman.
"He's got lots of confidence - he's still young and he's only going to get better. We're very happy to have him here."
While Coleman has sorted out his defence - they earned a fifth clean sheet in eight games against Saints - his strikers continue to fire blanks.
Michael Mifsud has not scored in the league since early December, although it was not for the want of trying as another loan goalkeeper - Richard Wright - denied the busy forward.

"We'll keep looking for new faces right up until Thursday's deadline," added Coleman.
"We know we have to better at the other end of the pitch but I'm convinced that when we get one, the goals will come back.
Southampton manager Nigel Pearson was also satisfied with a point on the back of last week's 5-0 humbling at Hull.
Wright, who joined Saints on loan from West Ham this week, pulled off a superb save to keep out Isaac Osbourne's close-range shot and also turned away Julian Gray's late drive.
"I'm delighted to have got Richard, he's a quality keeper and a really good character," said Pearson.
"We knew we were in for a difficult game. We are two clubs similar in stature and history and now in similar positions, with new managers.
"So there was always going to be a lot of pressure. But we'll play worse than that and win."
