"If you really want something, you'll do whatever it takes to earn it. That's what my dad taught me and I try to keep it in mind."
"If you really want something, you'll do whatever it takes to earn it. That's what my dad taught me and I try to keep it in mind."
This attitude's been a key part of Andy's progress. It's seen the right back deployed in centre midfield once his manager spotted his willingness to commit to every tackle. And it's seen him win at one of the game's most iconic grounds.
"When I was at Watford we won at Anfield in the Youth Cup quarter finals, penalty at the Kop end. That was my best moment in football so far. I'd like a few more."
Andy's working hard with the Academy coaches to grab a few more of those special moments. "They're really focused on the technical side of the game. It's the kind of standard you get at a pro club. They've given me more confidence in my shooting too. In the Watford game I beat a couple of players and took a decent shot, it didn't go in but Ross scored the rebound and we won the game."
Family's important to Andy, as well as his father's sturdy advice, his eldest brother got him into the game. "He still plays amateur, it's always been a bit of a competition to see who's best. It's probably me now. Sorry to say."
That family support's been important to Andy as he's persevered at making a living in the game. "It's been a tough slog at times, but I'm not going to complain about it, I'm doing what I love. It's hardly like I've got to get up in the morning and go to work at a bank or something is it?"
